Mandala Maker — Collaborative Symmetric Drawing & Sacred Geometry

Draw radial mandalas and sacred geometry alone or live with friends.

Mandala Maker is HYVE Tribe's browser-based symmetric drawing tool. Every stroke you make is mirrored across 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, or 24 axes of symmetry, turning simple doodles into intricate mandalas instantly. Draw alone as a meditation practice, or join a live room and draw collaboratively with up to six friends.

How to create a mandala

  1. 1

    Choose symmetry axis count

Start by picking how many symmetry axes your mandala will have. 6, 8, and 12 are classical choices; 4 is great for beginners; 16 and 24 create extremely dense, kaleidoscopic effects.

  2. 2

    Pick a color palette

Choose from curated palettes (sacred geometry, chakra colors, monochrome, Tibetan, kaleidoscope) or build your own palette with any hex colors.

  3. 3

    Start drawing

Move your cursor or finger on the canvas. Each stroke is instantly mirrored across all axes, creating a symmetric pattern in real time.

  4. 4

    Invite friends (optional)

Hit the share button to generate a room link. Anyone who opens the link joins your live drawing session. Up to six users can draw on the same canvas simultaneously.

  5. 5

    Save or share your mandala

Export your mandala as a high-resolution PNG or share it directly to your Tribe feed. Saved mandalas appear in your personal mandala gallery.

Why symmetric drawing?

Symmetric drawing is one of the oldest meditative art forms. Tibetan monks create intricate sand mandalas over days or weeks, only to dissolve them at the end as a meditation on impermanence. Yantra diagrams from the tantric tradition are symmetric mathematical objects designed as meditation supports. Even the rose windows of Gothic cathedrals are symmetric mandalas rendered in stained glass. The common thread is that the act of creating a symmetric pattern, stroke by stroke, puts the mind into a state of focused flow. Mandala Maker takes that ancient practice and makes it accessible with a browser.

The symmetry engine

Under the hood, Mandala Maker uses a radial symmetry transform that mirrors every stroke across N axes simultaneously. When you draw with 12-fold symmetry, a single curve becomes 12 curves arranged in a perfect circle. When you use 24-fold symmetry, the effect becomes kaleidoscopic. The math is simple, but the visual effect is immediate and often surprising — a simple scribble becomes an intricate flower pattern in a few seconds.

Collaborative mode

Collaborative mandala drawing is unique to HYVE Tribe. Up to six players can join the same live canvas and draw simultaneously, each with their own color. Strokes from all players are mirrored across the same axes, so the result is a true group creation. Most collaborative sessions develop a rhythm — one player fills in outlines, another adds detail, another adds color — and the final mandala reflects the collective creative energy of the group.

Meditation practice

Solo mandala drawing is an excellent meditation practice. You can set a timer for 10, 20, or 30 minutes and just draw, watching the pattern emerge. Many users report that 20 minutes of mandala drawing produces a state similar to a formal meditation session — the symmetric structure removes the pressure to "make something good," and the repetitive motion of adding strokes quiets the mind.

Sharing and the mandala gallery

Every mandala you save appears in your personal gallery, with timestamp and symmetry settings. You can share individual mandalas to your Tribe feed with one click, or export them as 4K PNGs for printing. The highest-rated community mandalas appear on the weekly mandala leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need drawing skills to make a good mandala?

No. The symmetry engine does most of the aesthetic work. A single scribble on a 12-axis canvas becomes a beautiful pattern automatically. Beginners produce striking results on their first session.

Is it really collaborative in real time?

Yes. Strokes are synchronized via WebSocket with sub-100ms latency. When another player adds a stroke, you see it appear on your canvas immediately.

Can I save my mandalas?

Yes. Every mandala is automatically saved to your personal gallery. You can also export any mandala as a 4K PNG for printing.

Does it work on touch devices?

Yes. Full touch support on iPad, Android tablets, and phones. Apple Pencil and other stylus inputs are supported with pressure sensitivity.

How many players can join a collaborative room?

Up to six players per room. Larger rooms are technically possible but become visually chaotic.

Is it free?

Yes. Mandala Maker is included free in every HYVE Tribe account. There is no premium brush pack or subscription paywall.

Can I use it for meditation?

Absolutely. Solo mandala drawing is a meditative practice. We recommend 10-30 minute sessions with a timer for best results.
