Hemi-Sync — Binaural Beats Generator & Brainwave Entrainment

A full-spectrum binaural beats generator covering delta through gamma, inspired by Monroe Institute Hemi-Sync technology.

HYVE Tribe Hemi-Sync is a free in-browser binaural beats generator covering the full brainwave spectrum from delta (1-4 Hz) through gamma (30-100 Hz). It includes pre-made tracks for specific states — sleep, focus, meditation, OBE induction — and a custom frequency mixer for advanced users. Works with any headphones.

How to use Hemi-Sync binaural beats

  1. 1

    Put on stereo headphones

Binaural beats only work with stereo headphones. Each ear hears a slightly different frequency; your brain perceives the difference as a beat. Speakers do not produce the binaural effect.

  2. 2

Pick a preset or build your own

Choose from presets like "Deep Sleep", "Focus 10", "Alpha Meditation", or "Gamma Flow". Or open the custom mixer to dial in any base carrier frequency and binaural offset manually.

  3. 3

    Start with comfortable volume

Binaural beats work at quiet volumes — you don't need to blast them. Start at low volume and adjust to comfortable background level.

  4. 4

    Listen for 15-45 minutes

Most users report entrainment effects after 10-15 minutes of consistent listening. For deeper effects, 30-45 minute sessions are common.

  5. 5

    Layer with other audio (optional)

You can layer ambient nature sounds, quiet music, or guided audio over the binaural base. The Hemi-Sync player has a built-in mixer.

Features

Full brainwave spectrum

Covers delta (1-4 Hz), theta (4-8 Hz), alpha (8-13 Hz), beta (13-30 Hz), and gamma (30-100 Hz) frequency ranges.

Curated presets

Ready-to-use tracks for sleep, focus, meditation, OBE induction, creative flow, anxiety relief, and deep rest.

Custom frequency mixer

Dial in any carrier frequency (100-1000 Hz) and any binaural offset (1-100 Hz). Save custom presets to your profile.

Ambient layer

Built-in ambient sound layer — rain, ocean, wind, pink noise, brown noise — that mixes with the binaural base.

Session timer

Set a session length and the player fades out smoothly at the end. No jarring interruptions.

No audio downloads

Everything is generated live in your browser with Web Audio API. No downloading gigabytes of track files.

Privacy-first

No listening history is shared, tracked, or sold. Your sessions are your own.

Works in any browser

Modern browsers support the Web Audio API needed for live binaural generation.

What are binaural beats?

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion that occurs when each ear hears a slightly different pure tone. If your left ear hears a 200 Hz tone and your right ear hears a 210 Hz tone, your brain perceives a 10 Hz "beat" — a phantom frequency that doesn't exist in either physical sound. This beat frequency is processed in the brainstem's superior olivary nucleus. Research suggests that when listeners are exposed to binaural beats in specific frequency ranges, the brain may entrain to those frequencies through a process called frequency-following response.

The Hemi-Sync story

In the 1970s, Robert Monroe (of Monroe Institute fame) discovered the binaural effect while investigating out-of-body experiences. He developed a patented technology called Hemi-Sync that layered multiple binaural frequencies to produce specific brain states, and he used it to train thousands of meditators in the Focus 10, 12, and 21 states. HYVE Tribe Hemi-Sync is inspired by this publicly documented work — not affiliated with the Monroe Institute, but built on the same principles and frequency targets described in Monroe's books.

The brainwave bands

Delta (1-4 Hz) is associated with deep dreamless sleep, restorative rest, and some meditation states. Theta (4-8 Hz) is associated with REM sleep, dream states, deep meditation, hypnagogia, and creativity. Alpha (8-13 Hz) is associated with relaxed wakefulness, light meditation, and flow states. Beta (13-30 Hz)is associated with normal waking cognition, focus, and problem-solving. Gamma (30-100 Hz) is associated with high-level cognitive processing, integration, and certain advanced meditation states reported in experienced Buddhist monks.

Presets for common states

The preset library includes tracks designed for specific states. Deep Sleep uses delta frequencies for falling and staying asleep. Focus 10uses layered theta for the "mind awake, body asleep" state used in OBE training. Alpha Meditation uses 10 Hz alpha for relaxed awareness. Creative Flow uses 6-7 Hz theta for the state associated with insight and flow. Gamma Integration uses 40 Hz gamma for cognitive integration. Schumann Resonance uses 7.83 Hz, the Earth's natural resonant frequency.

The custom mixer

Advanced users can build their own tracks from scratch. The mixer exposes the base carrier frequency (the tone both ears hear) and the binaural offset (the frequency difference that produces the beat). You can save custom presets to your profile, share them with the community, or import presets others have shared. The mixer also includes the ambient layer so you can combine binaural beats with rain, ocean, pink noise, or silence.

Safety and expectations

Binaural beats are generally safe for healthy adults. Avoid listening while driving or operating machinery (especially delta and theta beats, which can produce drowsiness). If you have epilepsy, photosensitive seizure disorder, or are pregnant, consult a healthcare provider. Binaural beats are not a medically-proven treatment for any condition and should not replace medical care. They are a tool for exploration and subjective state shifting — nothing more.

  • Full spectrum delta-through-gamma coverage
  • 20+ curated presets for common states

Frequently asked questions

Do binaural beats really work?

The evidence is mixed. Small-to-moderate effects on subjective state, anxiety, and focus have been observed in controlled studies, but the literature is not definitive. Many users report clear subjective effects regardless.

Do I need special headphones?

Any stereo headphones work. You do not need high-end gear. Speakers do NOT work — the binaural effect requires separate audio channels for each ear.

Is Hemi-Sync from the Monroe Institute?

HYVE Tribe Hemi-Sync is not officially from the Monroe Institute. It is a separate implementation inspired by the publicly documented binaural principles Monroe developed.

What frequency should I use for meditation?

Alpha (8-13 Hz) is the most common meditation target. 10 Hz is a good starting point. For deeper states, try theta (4-8 Hz).

Can I listen while working?

Alpha and beta presets support focused work well. Delta and theta presets are too relaxing for active work — they're better for rest and meditation.

Is it safe?

Generally yes for healthy adults. Avoid driving or operating machinery while listening. Consult a doctor if you have epilepsy or photosensitive seizures.

Is it free?

Yes. Hemi-Sync is free for every HYVE Tribe account. No audio downloads required — everything is generated live in your browser.
