Astral Projection — Guided OBE Training & Practice Journal
A guided practice app for astral projection and out-of-body experience training, inspired by the Monroe Institute protocols.
HYVE Tribe Astral Projection is a guided practice application for out-of-body experience (OBE) and astral projection training. It provides Monroe-Institute-inspired induction tracks, session journaling, and pattern tracking across your attempts. Free to use with any HYVE Tribe account.
How to practice astral projection
- 1
Prepare your space and body
Find a quiet, dim room where you won't be interrupted for 45-60 minutes. Lie on your back, slightly elevated if possible. Relax, but don't fall asleep — this is the "mind awake, body asleep" state.
- 2
Choose an induction track
The app provides several guided audio tracks based on Monroe Institute Hemi-Sync principles. Pick a short (15 min) or long (45 min) track depending on your available time.
- 3
Enter the focused relaxation state
Follow the audio guide through progressive relaxation, breath work, and visualization. The goal is deep body relaxation while the mind stays alert.
- 4
Attempt the exit
When you reach the target state (often marked by vibrations, a floating sensation, or visual phenomena), use one of the classic exit techniques: roll-out, rope technique, target focus, or mirror method.
- 5
Log your session
Whether or not you experienced an OBE, log your session in the journal. Record what sensations you noticed, how deep you got, and what techniques worked or didn't. Over time, patterns emerge.
Features
6 guided induction tracks
Short and long induction audio tracks inspired by Monroe Institute Hemi-Sync protocols, with binaural layering.
Classical exit techniques
Illustrated guides for the roll-out, rope, target focus, mirror, and visualization exit methods documented in OBE literature.
Session journal
Structured journal for logging every attempt: state depth, phenomena noticed, techniques used, and subjective impressions.
Pattern tracking
Over time, your session logs are analyzed to show which conditions correlate with your deepest sessions — time of day, sleep quality, technique, etc.
Built on Monroe protocols
The induction tracks and technique descriptions are based on publicly documented Monroe Institute work and classical OBE literature.
Safety guidance
Every session includes safety and grounding instructions for returning to normal consciousness comfortably.
Private by default
Your journal is private to your account. Nothing is shared publicly unless you explicitly opt in.
Tier XP for consistency
Regular practice contributes to tier progression regardless of specific outcomes.
What is astral projection?
Astral projection — also called out-of-body experience (OBE) — is a subjective experience in which consciousness seems to separate from the physical body. The practitioner reports observing their own body from outside, traveling through space, or entering non-ordinary environments. OBEs have been reported across cultures and throughout recorded history. They can occur spontaneously (often during near-death experiences, severe illness, or sleep paralysis) or through deliberate practice.
The scientific perspective
The scientific status of astral projection is contested. Mainstream neuroscience treats OBEs as a disturbance in the brain's body schema, typically localized to the right temporoparietal junction. Deliberately-induced OBEs can be produced with specific electrical stimulation protocols in laboratory settings. Whether the subjective experience reflects a genuinely non-physical consciousness or is entirely a function of the brain is an open question. HYVE Tribe takes no position on this debate — we provide the practice and let users interpret their experiences themselves.
The Monroe Institute legacy
Robert Monroe founded the Monroe Institute in Virginia in 1971 after spontaneous OBEs led him to investigate the phenomenon systematically. Monroe developed the Hemi-Sync binaural beat technology as a tool for inducing the states he called Focus 10 (mind awake, body asleep), Focus 12 (expanded awareness), and Focus 21 (the "other world"). The Monroe Institute has trained thousands of people in these protocols, and the methodology is extensively documented in Monroe's three books and a large body of subsequent research. HYVE Tribe's induction tracks are inspired by this publicly documented work.
The induction tracks
The app includes six guided audio tracks covering different stages of OBE training. Short tracks (15 minutes) are for daily practice and building relaxation skills. Medium tracks (30 minutes) are for deeper state work. Long tracks (45-60 minutes) are for serious projection attempts. All tracks layer guided voice instructions over binaural beats in the theta range (4-8 Hz), which is associated with the hypnagogic state at the boundary between waking and sleep.
Classical exit techniques
Once you reach the target state, the next step is the exit. Experienced practitioners describe several classical techniques, each of which works better for different people: the roll-out (mentally rolling sideways out of the body), the rope technique (visualizing reaching up and climbing an imaginary rope), the target focus (imagining a specific location and pulling consciousness there), the mirror method (projecting into an imagined mirror), and pure visualization (building a scene and entering it). The app provides illustrated guides for each.
The session journal
Every session should be logged, whether or not it felt successful. The journal records state depth (shallow relaxation to full hypnagogia), phenomena noticed (vibrations, sounds, visual phenomena, floating sensations), techniques used, and subjective impressions. Over weeks and months, patterns emerge: you might discover that your deepest sessions happen after 6 hours of sleep, that a specific induction track works best for you, or that vibrations are a reliable marker for approaching the projection state.
Safety and expectations
Astral projection practice is safe for healthy adults. The most common experience is simply deep relaxation and hypnagogic imagery, not a full OBE. Many practitioners practice for months or years before experiencing a full projection. The value of the practice, even without projection, is the deep relaxation, the quality of the induction states, and the growing awareness of your own consciousness transitions. Don't fixate on achieving projection — make the practice its own reward.

Frequently asked questions
Is astral projection real?
The subjective experience is well-documented, but its ontological status is contested. Mainstream neuroscience explains OBEs as a brain state, while traditional and experiential sources describe them as genuine consciousness travel. HYVE Tribe provides the practice and lets users draw their own conclusions.
How long before I can project?
Highly variable. Some people experience OBEs within days of starting practice; most take weeks or months; some practice for years without a full projection. The deep relaxation benefits are immediate even without projection.
Is it dangerous?
For healthy adults, the practice is generally safe. The most common experiences are deep relaxation and vivid imagery. Some people experience sleep paralysis-like sensations — these are uncomfortable but not harmful. If you have epilepsy, severe mental health conditions, or are on psychiatric medication, consult a healthcare provider first.
Do I need the Hemi-Sync audio?
No, but it helps. The binaural layering supports entry into the theta state. You can also practice with silence or ambient music if preferred. Use headphones for binaural effects.
Is this a Monroe Institute product?
No. HYVE Tribe is not affiliated with the Monroe Institute. Our induction tracks and technique descriptions are inspired by publicly documented Monroe work but are not official Monroe materials.
Can I use this for lucid dreaming?
Yes. The induction and relaxation practices are closely related to lucid dreaming techniques. Many users practice both simultaneously.
Is it free?
Yes. Astral Projection is free for every HYVE Tribe account.
