Breath Work App — Box, 4-7-8, Wim Hof, Pranayama

Box, 4-7-8, Wim Hof, and custom pranayama — free breathing exercises for calm and focus.

HYVE Tribe's Breath Hold game is a free breath work app that includes box breathing, 4-7-8 breathing, Wim Hof rounds, and custom pranayama patterns. Pair it with the Consciousness Ocean 3D meditation lab for visual-audio-breath entrainment. It is completely free — no subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases.

What it is

A breath work app is a software tool that guides breathing exercises — usually with visual pacing, audio cues, and session tracking. Breath work has become one of the most popular entry points into meditation and stress regulation, thanks to accessible techniques like 4-7-8 breathing, box breathing, and Wim Hof Method.

HYVE Tribe's version is the Breath Hold game — a free breath work app with four foundational patterns plus a custom pattern builder. Each session is visualized (a gentle expanding and contracting shape), timed, and logged to your consciousness journal for long-term tracking.

The breathing patterns we support

  • Box breathing (4-4-4-4): Four counts inhale, four hold, four exhale, four hold. Used by Navy SEALs for stress regulation.
  • 4-7-8 breathing: Four counts inhale, seven hold, eight exhale. Used for sleep and relaxation.
  • Wim Hof Method rounds: 30 to 40 deep breaths followed by a breath hold, repeated.
  • Pranayama (custom): Build your own nadi shodhana, kapalabhati, or bhastrika pattern.
  • Resonant breathing (5-5): Five counts in, five counts out, about six breaths per minute.
  • Breath hold training: Progressive static apnea sets for freedivers and meditators.

Why HYVE Tribe's version is different

Most breath work apps are simple timers with a single pattern. HYVE Tribe's Breath Hold game gives you six established patterns plus a custom builder. The visual pacing is smooth, the audio cues are optional, and nothing is ever behind a paywall.

What makes HYVE Tribe's breath work unique is the pairing with the Consciousness Ocean lab. The lab visualizes ocean waves that breathe with you in 3D — as you inhale, the waves rise; as you exhale, they recede. Layer 7.83 Hz Schumann binaural audio on top, and you have a multi-sensory breath practice that you will not find in any other breathing app.

Frequently asked questions

Is this breath work app really free?

Yes. Breath Hold is free with any HYVE Tribe account. No subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases.

Is box breathing safe?

Generally yes. Box breathing is one of the safest breath work patterns and is widely taught in military and mindfulness programs.

Is 4-7-8 breathing safe?

Yes for most people. If you are new, start with shorter counts (2-3-4) and build up. Do not practice while driving.

Is Wim Hof Method safe?

Wim Hof rounds involve breath holds after deep breathing and can cause lightheadedness. Never practice Wim Hof in water, while driving, or if you have cardiovascular conditions. Read the safety notes in the game.

How long should I breathe each day?

5 to 10 minutes daily is plenty for most benefits. Longer sessions are optional.

Can children use this?

Box breathing (4-4-4-4) is safe for children. Wim Hof and long breath holds are not recommended for children.

What is Consciousness Ocean?

A 3D research-grade lab inside HYVE Tribe where ocean waves rise and fall with your breath, optionally synchronized with 7.83 Hz Schumann binaural audio.

Do I need a microphone or anything else?

No. The breath work game requires nothing beyond a browser. Microphone is only needed if you use Mantra Echo.
